A trace mineral (usually as chromium picolinate) taken to support insulin action and reduce carbohydrate cravings.
Benefits
Trace mineral that may modestly improve insulin sensitivity and glucose control; marketed for cravings and body composition.
Risks
Benefits are small and inconsistent; high supplemental doses can cause GI upset and, rarely, kidney or liver effects. Supplement (trivalent) chromium differs from toxic industrial hexavalent chromium.
