Loperamide (Imodium)
⤢ 3D
Antidiarrheal. Reduces intestinal motility. Actively excluded from the brain by P-glycoprotein. No direct brain effect — does not cross the blood–brain barrier.
Benefits
Effective anti-diarrheal that slows gut motility for acute or chronic diarrhea.
Risks
Can cause constipation; massive misuse for opioid-like effects causes dangerous, sometimes fatal, heart arrhythmias. Avoid in bloody diarrhea or suspected bacterial colitis.
